Discovering Costa Navarino in the region of Messenia, which lies in the South-West of the Greek Peloponnese islands. It is fair to say that until recently the area was almost completely unknown to the UK Conference and Incentive industry, only visited by hardy olive pickers and those really wanting to get off the beaten track for their Greek holidays. All that changed with the arrival of the ambitious Costa Navarino Resort project. Two stunning properties comprise the accommodation offer, The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort and The Westin Resort Costa Navarino.
Award-winning DMC Vista Events, whose second staffed office is found at Pylos town nearby the resort, hosted a Business Development trip to the destination in early July. I was lucky enough to take the group and experience what the resorts and destination can offer. Flights have improved enormously with the recent arrival of a twice weekly British Airways service (to complement the Easyjet flights 4x weekly). A new road linking Kalamata Airport to the resorts will open imminently, reducing the one hour journey by half (and to Athens to 3 hours). This is a region on the up but still imbued with the serenity and authenticity of real Greece!
Our little group came away from the destination not only with a nice tan but also with a sense that Costa Navarino really works for events. To really get the most from this region is to go large and charter. With 321 rooms at the Romanos and 445 at The Westin, countless outdoor event areas, over 5000m² of conference space and local villages which lend themselves to a full-on party, you can see why so many leading brands have chosen to host large events here.
