Rotterdam and The Hague have been voted joint Best Short-Haul Events Destinations by C&IT readers, ahead of big-hitters such as London, Berlin and Barcelona. Both cities have seen a wave of new hotel openings, and C&IT readers were very impressed with the combination of excellent business venues and the wide range of stylish and creative event spaces.
Our partner DMC Performance Travel regularly works in both destinations and is thrilled that two of The Netherlands’ lesser known cities have won this accolade. We asked Daan Riemeijer, owner of Performance Travel, to tell us more.
‘Art and culture are very important in Rotterdam. From major exhibitions in the Kunsthal to enthralling concerts in De Doelen, the full scope of arts and culture is an intrinsic part of the city’s allure. Rotterdam is alive the whole year with festivals and events related to culture, sport and music. In addition, the city is well known as the architectural capital of The Netherlands after having been completely rebuilt following World War Two, and boasts one of Europe’s largest ports. We believe Rotterdam is a great up and coming MICE destination. The combination of the architecture, harbour area, people, youthful fun atmosphere and affordable hotel rates make it a very attractive destination.
The Hague’s palaces, mansions and beautiful parks all contribute to its international allure. In addition the city centre offers many restaurants, terraces and let’s not forget: the beach at Scheveningen is around the corner! This relatively unknown destination is expected to grow fast in terms of business tourism, with a great mix of historical, cultural, sporty and educational activities on offer.’
