MYKONOS OVERVIEW:
Famous worldwide as cosmopolitan destination, Mykonos Island represents the idea most travellers get while looking at postcards and dreamy images of Greek Islands. Here you will find both archeological and natural wonders, magical culinary feasts, centuries of tradition and wide-ranging recreational activities.
CLIMATE:
The climate of the island is characterised by hot, dry summers and mild winters. Like in most of the Aegean islands it hardly ever rains during summer, but rain showers can be expected between October and April. The Cyclades are famous for the constant wind (called meltemi) in July and August that mitigates the heat a little.
GETTING THERE:
BY AIR – British Airways and EasyJet fly directly from the UK while Aegean Airlines flies to Mykonos via Athens.
BY FERRY – Mykonos is easily reached from Athens’ two ports (Piraeus and Rafina) by ferry, especially in summer when more ferries are added to the schedules.
ACCOMMODATION:
Having fairly acquired the reputation of the most cosmopolitan island of the Cyclades, this island of extreme beauty offers a multitude of hotel accommodation, whether you are looking for traditional architecture or luxury designer hotels.
CUISINE:
Mykonos is amongst the best places to eat in Greece, where lucky travellers can taste great dishes prepared by renowned chefs in magnificent settings. The island was amongst the first places to offer a more sophisticated and contemporary version of traditional greek cuisine. Anyhow, one thing is certain, in Mykonos you are really spoilt for choice!
